How do Lovable credits work?

Idea Labz · Oct 27, 2026 · 3 min read

A credit is the single unit Lovable charges for everything you do with it. That covers building, chatting, hosting your app and running its backend, AI features inside your app, and some connectors (Lovable’s credits guide). Each message costs credits according to how much work it takes. Lovable spends your free daily and monthly allowances first, then your paid credits, starting with the ones closest to expiry.

How many credits does a message cost?

It depends on the mode and on how much work Lovable does. A message in Plan mode costs 1 credit, plus the cost of any research Lovable runs while planning. A message in Build mode is priced on the work it takes, and Lovable gives these examples:

What you ask forCredits
Make the button grey0.50
Remove the footer0.90
Add authentication1.20
Build a landing page with images2.00

Small, focused edits cost less than big generations or changes that need Lovable to explore your code, check its work, search the web or make images. To see what a message really cost, open the More options menu under any Lovable response and look for Credits used. A message you stop is charged for the work done so far, and one you stop before anything changes costs nothing.

Long messages check in with you once they’ve used 20 credits, by default. You can carry on, set a new level, or tell Lovable to finish up.

Which credits does Lovable use first?

Lovable always uses its allowances for one kind of work, which it calls grants, before your general credits. Free, Pro and Business each get 5 daily build credits and a daily chat allowance, plus 20 Cloud credits, 4 AI credits and 1 connector credit a month. On the free plan, the daily build credits stop at 30 a month. The daily grants reset at 00:00 UTC.

Each grant only pays for its own kind of work. The Cloud grant pays for hosting, and the AI grant pays for AI features in your published app. Chat draws on the chat allowance first, then on the daily build credits, then on general credits. Once a grant runs out, the work it covered moves to your general credits, so nothing stops while you still have credits. Lovable marks the monthly grants and the chat pricing as temporary, so they may change.

Do Lovable credits roll over?

Paid credits do, and the free daily and monthly allowances don’t. On Pro, from $25 a month with 100 credits (Lovable pricing), unused monthly credits roll over while your subscription is active:

  • Monthly plans. Credits expire 2 months after they’re issued.
  • Annual plans. Credits expire 1 month after the annual period ends.
  • Top-ups. Credits you buy last 12 months.

For example, someone on monthly Pro gets 100 credits on 1 October and uses 60 of them building a client portal. The 40 left carry into November next to November’s new 100. Lovable spends the October 40 first, because they expire sooner, at the end of November.

If you cancel, you keep your credits until the end of the billing period. Unused paid credits come back if you subscribe again before they expire.

What happens when you run out of credits?

On Pro and Business, an admin can buy a one-time top-up or switch on auto top-up, which buys credits when your balance drops below a level you set. The free plan can’t top up. When a workspace has no credits left, building stops, AI features in your published apps stop working, and apps that use Lovable Cloud pause.

On Lovable, the same balance pays for building an app and for keeping it running, so a finished app keeps using credits for as long as people use it.

Biscuit, user defined software. How Biscuit handles this. No credit balance to watch. Biscuit has no credits to buy and no metering. You describe what you need, and the AI you already use builds it inside your workspace. Beside it, a Biscuit workspace shows a client portal being built with Claude, and four requests from today, make the button grey, remove the footer, add a login page and add an invoices table, each at 0 credits.
